Alpena Agency was founded by Frank Bailey, our grandfather, in 1930.  Like many small businesses, Alpena Agency started in his home and grew from there, settling in downtown Alpena, Michigan.  Our father, Richard Wilson, took over the agency in the late 60's and continued to expand the company up until we purchased the agency in 1995.  Since 1995 we have attempted to carry on the same commitment and focus as our father and grandfather had to our customers and our community.

Alpena Agency is an independent insurance agency.  This means we do business with a number of different insurance companies so we can offer our customers many choices.  This flexibility has allowed Alpena Agency to help our clients with difficult situations and shop the market place for the best options.  We have been very selective, maybe even picky, on the companies that we represent so we can offer you the best value.

Our strength has always been a strong commitment to product knowledge, maintaining a professional staff and a focus on customer service.  We offer a full range of insurance products (auto, home, life, health, Medicare and business insurance).  This has allowed us to grow our customer base and expand our relationships with the companies we represent.

We have customers throughout Michigan.  From relationships our father and grandfather developed (and later we expanded) in the Detroit area, to people with seasonal homes 'up north' that enjoyed working with us and had us take care of their primary house and car insurance downstate and all across Michigan.  We have always been a family business and have kept our friendly local small town approach without compromising the need for product knowledge and a professional staff.

Being a community partner has been an important part of Alpena Agency.  Both of us grew up in Alpena and raised our families here.  In addition to sponsoring activities, providing donations and volunteering our own time, we encourage and support our employees own participation in various service projects and organizations in our area.  This can be seen in the vast number of groups we participate in and the many hours our employees volunteer of their own time each year.

We are both very excited to have our fourth generation of family ownership on the horizon.  Our daughters Claire Kostelic and Erin Olsen, along with their husbands Tanner and Micah, are working with us now preparing to carry on the long tradition of our family business.  Each bring with them years of talent and successful experience in a variety of fields, and they are excited to lead the Alpena Agency, Inc. team into the future.
